FAQ regarding ReNew Partnerships

What is the purpose of ReNew?

ReNew Partnerships empowers Christians to cross ethnic, denominational, and socio-economic barriers to effectively address the needs in their community. We do not seek short-lived, superficial "shows of unity". Instead, we pursue long-term, systemic change within the church by equipping Christians with the character and leadership skills necessary to follow the Biblical mandate to:

1.      Desire unity: Recognize our need for each other and desire to work together. (Ephesians 4:1-6)

2.      Value differences: Acknowledge and value our differences. (Romans 12:3-8)

3.      Communicate well: Communicate and resolve conflicts well. (Ephesians 4:25-32)

4.      Share Concern: Realize that when one suffers, all suffer. (1 Corinthians 12:24-26)

5.      Help one another: Help and encourage one another. (Hebrews 10:23-25)

6.      Work together: Work together to address the needs in our community. (Ephesians 2)

We especially focus our efforts on two strategic areas:

  • Building interracial partnership and unity: Due to prejudice, misunderstandings, and lack of cooperation the church remains "the most segregated major institution in America." We help Christians work together across ethnic lines and experience the beauty, joy, and strength of our diversity.

  • College students and young adults (18-25 years old): We help developing Christian leaders to channel their creativity, passion, and adaptability into building a more functional and unified church. We equip them with the character and leadership skills they need to be effective change agents.

What does ReNew do?

We have a collaborative, grassroots approach to impacting a community. We first meet with as many young adults and ministry leaders as possible to pray with them and to discern if the conditions and timing are right for us to be involved. If there are existing initiatives which share our vision we meet with them to see how we can work together to avoid duplicating efforts. If the conditions are right, we begin to impact the community through three methods:

Method:
RAISING AWARENESS
STRATEGIC COLLABERATION
LEADERSHIP EMPOWERMENT
We seek to impact:
All Christians -- especially college students and young adults
Christian leaders while addressing critical needs in the community
Committed, available, teachable leaders
Our primary goal:
Help all Christians to see the importance and beauty of cross-cultural unity and provide them with resources, training, and encouragement.
Foster cross-cultural unity and partnership by being "at the table" as an integral part of key collaborative projects Christians are working on in the community.
Provide highly-motivated, developing leaders with the mentoring, training, experience, and resources necessary for them to be cross-cultural pioneers.
Example
activities & projects:
Guest speaking, prayer, discussion groups/workshops, large diverse events, resources
City-wide events/conferences, tutoring/job training, serving the poor, campus programs
Internship/volunteer programs, one-on-one mentoring, on-the-job training, coaching, resources

What are some examples of things that ReNew has done?

We have coordinated and/or played a significant role in helping with...

- weekly prayer gatherings and prayer retreats for college students and young adults

- monthly leaders luncheons for local ministry leaders to build relationships, pray, and work together

- monthly meetings

- large multicultural unity events

- large evangelistic outreaches (12,000+)

- city-wide service days

- workshops and training seminars

- and much more!

What does ReNew hope to accomplish in Indy?

To be honest, we're not sure.  We are still in the process of talking with local leaders to discern what, if any, part the Lord would have us play in the community.   We would love your input on that -- please contact us at info@renewpartners.org if you have any ideas or would like to meet with us and let us know what you think.
