"Follow The Money...."

Was it Jesus that said that?  Same as.  "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

I say this not in the stereotypical sermon-on-stewardship form.  Rather, I simply suggest to you (us all) that money is one of Christ's favorite object-lessons.  And ours.  Don't believe me?  Try this on Sunday the first time you see anyone in the congregation who even remotely looks like they're disinterested, sleepy or whatver...  Stop what you're saying.  Walk out away from your pulpit.  Slowly reach in your back pocket and fetch your wallet.  Reach in and pull out some bill -- the larger the better, but some of you would be hard-pressed to find anything beyond a $1 bill -- and raise it into the air... still saying nothing.  Now, if that sleepy person is not wide awake again... come back here and tell me.... and I'll send you a bigger bill.  LOL.  Point is... money gets people's attention; and what we do with our money is indicative, as Jesus said, of what we REALLY believe and are trusting in.

So here in this wiki-page, I want us to start addressing the 'Big Questions' about money...

  • Poverty?
  • Treasure?
  • Fundraising?
  • Partnering/Support?
  • Tent-making?
  • Tithing?
  • Praying it in?
  • Employment
  • Stewardship (of the sheep)
  • Stewardship (of the cattle)

Discussion... Stray-links, Ideas, Suggestions, Comments...

  • Chris Brooks blog-question... "Escaping the Ugly Hustle?" (and be sure and read through the comments/feedback there.)
  • Rudy Carrasco's article "Protest and Invest"
  • Certainly all this bears on the 'Big Question'... What should the Model Church be & do... and how?
  • Here's one thought re a money-generating machine... re turning abandoned homes into cash... ie, eg. using sweat-equity by re-entry programs.... neighborhood improvement (collectively).
  • Your thoughts?
