The CityReaching wiki is collaboratively sponsored by the 'Center For Urban Innovation'... "Producing Innovative CityReachers."
"How Then Shall We Learn?"
Our Mission: Training CityReachers. Crossroads Bible College seeks to "Train Christian Leaders To Reach A Multiethnic Urban World For Christ".
How Many? How Well-trained? A much-needed mission demands that we train as many as possible, as well as possible. To that end, our 'Center For Urban Innovation' is challenging the cityreaching community to help us revisit the overall basic concept of HOW that 'training' best takes place. A wiki might be an interesting way to re-approach the topic -- obtaining inputs from academics & practioners. Let's try, at least in the context of a Bible college focused on our mission at hand...
Might an overall framework include...
-
- What might be some of the key elements of the Value-chain Processes we call 'education'?
- Define the Model Beginner (think raw material... preferably you'd want quality raw material... yes?)
- Add Model Curricula.
- Subtract False Assumptions.
- Add Model Faculty.
- Add Model Experiences.
-
Add Model Modelers, Mentors, Counselors, Coaches -- maybe even 'Each One, Teach One', to enhance learning.
- Mix Well. (diverse interaction)
- Experiment in a Model Sandbox... ie, 'lab'. Maybe even via 'immersion'.
- Quality Assessment along the way... especially final product... and...
- 'La Voila!'... a college degree? Poof, you're a cityreacher? Leader in a Model Church?
- Lifelong learning? Continuing obligations for interactions AFTERward?
******************
Questions and other stray thoughts:
- Think of the dichotomy between 'institution' (classically long-enduring, unchanging) vs. 'innovation' (radical changes... but not necessarily always short-term-positive changes). To what degree does 'failure' enhance learning? Does pain enhance learning? (especially if learning is defined to include changes in self-discipline).
