'Facebook' -- How Could THAT Help?                 'CONNECTIONS'!

[Click here for a review of 'Social Networking' in general, and its value in the Kingdom.]

Firstly, let's be clear... God doesn't NEED ANYTHING created by human hands.  "Unless the Lord watches over the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain."

On the other hand... the Apostle Paul talks about doing just about anything to 'spread the gospel rapidly'.

Jonathan Edwards' #1 Resolution in life, as you can guess, was a lofty spiritual goal the rest of us would envy.

His #2 Resolution though, was to use any 'invention' to prosper resolution #1.

There are LOTS of tools available to help carry out the Great Commission.  Accelerating connections of driven Christians throughout cities across the country(s)... via a 'CityReaching Movement' group at Facebook.com... is a God-sent tool for our time.

A (FREE) 'tool' to do what?

To accelerate the gospel by expediting the connecting of driven Christians, city by city for prayer-care-and-share.

[Read what Pastor Bobby Gruenewald says... as they start Facebook Church.]

P.S... For those of you who catch the vision for using this great tool to reconnect the Church in YOUR community... let us know where YOUR important Facebook 'groups'.  And let's build this lower part of the page into a discerning the best uses of Facebook for our 'cause'... the cause of Christ, to transform lives & communities.

OK... what are your insights re the best uses of Facebook?  What's your experience with FB so far?  What's right?  What's wrong?  What can we learn?

  • Does a FB group work well as a 'team' intranet (centralized bulletin board or playbook type of thing)???
  • Or does a  FB 'cause' work better?
  • Dunno, but I want a 'scorecard' app or gizmo, to help all our team be able to know at a glance, how are we doing at the Great Commission... and/or the drivers of accomplishing the Great Commission.
  • Here's the Internet Evangelism Day team's take on social-networking as outreach.
  • [Testimonial from A. Smidt... "Just wanted to update you on The South Dakota Food Fighters group on facebook. . .  I attended a regional food pantry provider's conference last month and met some really awesome people from South Dakota. Several of them work on or near the Indian Reservations here in South Dakota. Their needs are so great and their resources are so limited. We huddled together to pray after one of our sessions and promised we'd find some way of staying in touch once the conference was over. It wouldn't be easy. We were from different corners of the state. There was no money in our budgets to travel or for long distance phone calls.  Neil had just introduced me to this group on facebook and I suggested that we try setting up a group of our own to help us brainstorm problems and to share both our surplus and our needs.  Today I was able to share a van load of surplus food with one of those pantries and found out that since we prayed at the conference, the blessings have been pouring in! [You can see this feature in Facebook by clicking your HOME link there.

Then Preferences-link in your 'news feed'.]

News Feed Preferences:   This is one SWEET feature that validates what I've come to believe about Facebook... They 'GET IT' !!!  They let you (the USER) set your own equalizer settings for your 'News Feed'... ie, news about what your friends or groups are doing (hopefully productively... at least MY friends are **smile**).  I'm guessing they very much 'get it' and will add this similar equalizer dynamic to their SEARCH block (which already is extremely well done... as it is giving YOU personally a customized search because it knows who your friends are, your prefernces, your groups, etc.... thus they have a great headstart on knowing what you're really looking for).

Like I say, that's just ONE thing they 'get' -- and it's a great reason they will do extremely well in the future.  I believe Facebook is quickly becoming a 'platform' for tomorrow.
