New Location: Marriott Hotel

(7202 East 21st Street) in The Library, a private room in the corner of the dining room.

The Library is a nice room for our Ministry Team, and we will order off the menu.  They have several items for $7.95, which, with drink, tax & tip, will cost about $11.00.  Drink water & get by for less than $10!

We have been having great discussions, sharing our visions for the transformation of the eastside.  We have scheduled a visit from Deputy Mayor Olgen Williams in March, so we need to have some ideas to present to him.

Good crowd!  We had 14 for Pepe's chicken enchiladas!

Quintus had a good report about Saturday's Bible study with the neighbors at Horizon House.

Steve had a more negative report about an armed robbery in his neighborhood.  It surfaced some concerns about a Crimewatch leader who was not alarmed - seemed like normal to her!  It also pointed out that any kind of neighborhood imporvements take time and effort.  Steve said he had dropped out of Neighborhood Crimewatch because he "didn't have time."

Our discussions did yield some focal points for our transformation effort in Warren Township:

Transformation Issues

    Perceptions

There is a lot of negative publicity about the "Eastside"

The newspaper stories characterize any incident that occurs east of Meridian to be on the Eastside, no matter how far north or south it is.

Everyone is busy - it's tough to get involved with any activity outside of work or family

It appears that one of the things that needs to change is that we need to begin to generate some positive publicity, in order to change the perceptions.

    City Government

Someone mentioned a new city program focused on buying foreclosed houses, renovating them, and encouraging home ownership (which we consider to be a good idea.)

Another, who has experience with "flipping" real estate, said that the government was the biggest  problem in trying to do that, to improve a neighborhood.

It appears that we need to get the city government on the same page, if we are going to make a difference in Warren Township.

A positive step that we can take to deal with both of these issues, is to invite Olgen Williams to visit one of our meetings, to present him with some ideas, and recommendations, and to support him in what he is doing with the City Government.  He is enlisting help in the development of the Front Porch Alliance.

We need to get on board with him, so he can get on board with us!

Another great week!

Jonathan Thomas returned to discuss his EastGate vision, Tom Ketchum reiterated his vision for the transformation of Warren Township, and we were joined by newcomers, John Hunt & Trey Davis.

John's face was a picture of affirmation, and joy, as Trey Davis shared God's leading in his life, which has led him to establish Cornerstone Church of Indianapolis on Shortridge Road, across the street from Eastgate Mall, and just south of Crossroads Bible College.  John, Jonathan, and Trey have all been impressed by the Holy Spirit to promote 24/7 prayer, so they were excited about the prospects of unity in this area!

Eldon shared the 12 Characteristics of Communities that have Experienced Transformation, which emphasizes Prayer as the 1st Characteristic - "sustained, earnest, united, desperate prayer."  Are we desperate enough about the Eastside to commit to the work of prayer?

Five of us had an impromptu prayer meeting following the luncheon, and three of us committed to meet weekly for prayer.  Let Eldon know if you are interested in joining us.

Breakthrough

It is easy to assume that anyone with a company called EastGate Studios would have a business in or around the old Eastgate Mall.  It was on that assumption that I invited Jonathan (JT) Thomas to attend our CBMC IndyEast Ministry Team meeting to share his vision for Eastgate.  He readily agreed, so I informed the troops.

JT not only came, but he brought his friends, William, and Tarik (as in retired Colts offensive lineman.)  He shared his story as a precursor to his vision, and, come to find out, he didn’t know anything about Eastgate Mall until two weeks ago!

God gave him the vision for EastGate five years ago in Nashville, Tennessee.  (God does have a sense of humor, don’t you know!)

So, Jonathan went down to Eastgate after he found out about it, and he felt a sense that this was where God wanted him to be.  God gave him a scripture in Ezekial 43, and this is what 43:1 says:

“Afterward he brought me to the gate, [even] the gate that looketh toward the east:”

Jonathan has agreed to return next week, and we want to give the other men an opportunity to respond to what they heard from him.  We want to devote some time each meeting to pray for the area and implementation of the vision.

We have been meeting for four months with the purpose of transforming Warren Township, but we have been focused on getting to know each other, and to become comfortable with sharing our thoughts.  Now we know what that was all about!

Transform Indiana has been meeting for over five years, connecting like-passioned men & women, but we have not seen an area that is going through transformation.  Maybe it’s Eastgate!

Come join us on Wednesdays for a great lunch, and an opportunity to share in the transformation of Eastgate & Warren Township.

Let's look at some verses this week that will help us with our Goal Setting for 2008:

Psa 32:8   I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Psa 32:9   Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding, Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check, {Otherwise} they will not come near to you.

    What does this mean?

How can we apply it in our life & our business?

Pro 6:6   Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,

Pro 6:7   Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,
Pro 6:8

Prepares her food in the summer {And} gathers her provision in the harvest.

What's the difference between the ant & the horse?

What can we learn from the comparison?

Pro 6:9   How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

Pro 6:10

"A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"--
Pro 6:11   Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man.

What additional Information do we learn from this passage?

How can we apply it in our life & our business?

Remember, CBMC IndyEast meets every Wednesday, 12noon - 1:00pm at Papagallo's, 21st & Shadeland.  Pepe' Cuevas serves us a specially-prepared entree each week for the all-inclusive price of $10.00.

We engage each other in lively conversation, which is designed to encourage, enlighten, & uplift businessmen on the eastside of Indianapolis.  We seek to make a difference in Warren Township by conducting our businesses according to Biblical principles, encouraging the growth & development of businesses & jobs on the eastside, and praying for the transformation of lives, families, neighborhoods, and communities through the power of Jesus Christ.

You are encouraged to join with us, in our weekly fellowship & discussions, in order to bring about positive change in IndyEast.
