Biblical Worldview...

From Barna Research Group in their 2003 Report re Biblical Worldview...

"For the purposes of the research, a biblical worldview was defined as believing that absolute moral truths exist; that such truth is defined by the Bible; and firm belief in six specific religious views. Those views were that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life; God is the all-powerful and all-knowing Creator of the universe and He stills rules it today; salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned; Satan is real; a Christian has a responsibility to share their faith in Christ with other people; and the Bible is accurate in all of its teachings."

Related:   We'll be building a "Worldview Toolkit" here in the wiki, to aid anyone involved in the Great Commission.

First:  defining biblical worldview is a personal project that I (Ellen) would like to work on, because I hear the use of this phrase quite often in various contexts.

[from Ellen S.]  My perception of the meaning of "Biblical Worldview" is simply this. . .

             choosing to view the world, its happenings, and my place in the world by using the filter of God's Word.

 In this world today with publications airbrushing models zits away, supermarket "rags" glamorizing landings of aliens, etc., we have to question what we see.  "Seeing is believing" doesn't prove to be true in this age of photo-editing and the ability of people to create counterfit fifty dollar bills on their computers.

1 John 4

 1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

 3 and every spirit that confesseth not Jesus is not of God: and this is the spirit of the antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it cometh; and now it is in the world already.

 4 Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

The ONLY thing we can truely trust is that what God says is always true.  So with God's Word as the measuring stick, why not hold up that which we encounter in the world to that which is known to be true?

So, now, given that God's Word says that there will be trouble in a Christian's life (not "if", but "when)

2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (New American Standard Bible)

 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;

 8we are (afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing;

 9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;

1 Peter 4:12-13 (New Living Translation)

 12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. 13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

How do you feel about a person saying that people must be suffering some kind of calamity or be undergoing financial hardship based as a consequence of them simply not having enough faith or some other kind of divine punishment?

I will add more to this as I continue to ponder.
